Main (replacement) title (00.07). A boy posing outside a building and holding a card
reading Whitsuntide Fair at Preston' (00.13). Carousel going round. The carriages are switchback
gondolas (gondola-like, large and ornate, and rock from side to side as they go round) (00.29).
Slightly elevated MS of the market place with covered stalls. People at the stalls, a horse and
cart, a boy on a bicycle. Pan to show the exterior of the Post Office with stalls in the street
in front of it selling clothes and haberdashery (00.46). The gallopers with people riding on the
cockerells. Crowds milling about in front of the ride. (1.17). MLS the exterior of the entrance
to the Cinematograph. The word Cinematograph' is clearly seen in large letters. Crowds in front
of it including a small boy playing the violin. (1.20mins). Note: In front of the entrance to the
Cinematograph (identified as George Green's Cinematograph, George Green also toured the fair),
but too far away to be part of it, there is a machine, unattended by the crowds. A wooden case
with glass sides is mounted on a column. Tape or ribbons, immobile, hang from two sides of it (4
narrow ones at one side, a single, wider one on the other). In the glass-sided wooden case is
what appears to be a scientific instrument. Steam-powered roudabouts, the cinematograph show
feature. There was around 150 fairs a week around this time in the United Kingdom, where this
